Chionochloa (Chionochloa)

Description

Chionochloa , is a genus of herbaceous plantsbelonging to the family of the Poaceae. He is originally from New Zealand and Southeast Australia. They are herbaceous cespitose plant that dominates the scrub pastures of height in the mountains of the volcanic islands of the north and can also be found in the areas in the northern half of the South Island . It is found above the tree line along with other species. The name derives from the Greek chion (snow) and chloe (young grass), in reference to the common name in English of snowgrasses.
