Ampelodesmos mauritanicus is a robust,perennial,rhizomatous herbaceous plant that can grow to 2 to 3 m tall 2.The species is geophytic with short rhizomes and is strongly cespiteous.The leaves are rough to the touch,the ligule is membranous,lanceolate and with ciliated edge.The inflorescence is a panicle of spikelets of 2 to 5 flowers.The slightly uneven glumes are often reddish.The glumes have hairs.
