Description

Macradenia is a genus of epiphytes originating in America . It has eleven species . The plants are small, measuring just over ten centimeters with elongated pseudobulbs , round in section or slightly laterally compressed, with a subcoriaceous-elliptical lanceolate apical leaf . The axillary inflorescence arises from the pods of pseudobulbs in the form of a cluster , sometimes erect, with many flowers. These usually have shades of brown and red spots. The petals and sepals are the same. The lip is sessile , deeply trilobed, with a lateral lobe much larger than the median, embraced to the column, and the middle lobe very short and narrow, somewhat collected or forming an angle with the set of secondary lobes. The column stands out on the end with delicate wings or varied fringes and elongated anther with two pollinia .
