Description

Leptotes harryphillipsii is a small species of epiphytic orchid of cespitoso growth that inhabits drier areas of the Atlantic forest in the Brazilian states of the Southeast.Present rhizome short and pseudobulbs small that almost imperceptibly extend in a fleshy and short upright sheet teretiforme. The inflorescence is apical, short, and bears one to a fewsmall, well-opened flowers. The flowers are usually of slightly pinkish striped coloration with a darker tone, with labellumstained purple at the edges. The petals and sepals are similar, the lip is trilobado elevated elongated with serrated borders, having claws that are attached to the sides of the column. This is short and has six pollinias of unequal sizes, four large and two small. They are plants related to Loefgrenianthus and Pseudolaelia and Schomburgkia. It belongs to the group of Leptotes of short leaves, and flowers more rounded and more open, but smaller. It may be recognized by its slightly striated pectorals and sepals and more elongated labellum. This species is extremely similar to the variable Leptotes pauloensis, being very difficult its separation.
