Wild european orchid (Epipactis kleinii)

Description

Epipactis kleinii is a Mediterranean orchid, relatively discrete and fond of limestone substrata, on the edge of oak or pine forest. It is a tall plant of 20 to 50 cm and general appearance purplish gray. The stem, densely pubescent, has distal leaves, lanceolate at the base. The inflorescence is composed of flowers of very small size, not very open, of green tint washed with pink-violet. The leaves are often tinged with red and mauve. It is a variable species by the hue and appearance of the leaves that can be found from the seashore up to 1500 m altitude. Its range covers a large northeast quarter of the Flowering period: June - July.
