Cattleya aclandiae (Cattleya aclandiae)

Description

The Cattleya aclandiae is a species of orchid epiphytes belonging to the genus of Cattleya. It is a small-sized orchid that has slender , articulated, furrowed pseudobulbs that carry two apical leaves, elliptical, thick, fleshy, stained, obtuse and red leaves. It blooms in summer and autumn in a short, terminal inflorescence, which appears within the developing leaves and which carries from one to two flowers, large in proportion to the plant, fragrant, wax, long-lasting. This plant definitely appreciates a dry winter after which it will bloom in the spring and early summer, and will initiate a new growth cycle. This is one of the Cattleya tolerant to light and can withstand a bit of direct sun. It is found in Brazil , in the drier areas, close to the coast, in elevations of 100 to 400 meters, in the rough bark of the trees, where it rains little. Cattleya aclandiae was described by John Lindley and published in Edwards's Botanical Register 26: t. 48. 1840.
