Description

Cyanicula amplexans is a species of orchids geophytes , orchid family, southwestern Australia ,which inhabit different environments, always with markedly seasonal climate. They are annual plants that grow solitary or in small groups during autumn and winter and bloom in late winter. Its flowering is stimulated by occasional summer fires. Of difficult cultivation,are composed of tubercles completely covered by a fibrous robe, without roots , of stemsshort, erect, unbranched, with one flat basal leaf membranous, oval, covered with pilosidades, inflorescence terminal,with only up to four flowers blue or white resupinate, free and very similar segments. The lip is much smaller than the other segments, simple or trilobate, with calli lined at least halfway, attached to the spine by a basal claw, entirely covered by small glands , usually the closest to the base, of different shape. The column is curved and delicate, nicknamed, with anther terminal and four polynesian . The name of the genus name comes from the Greek cyano , blue, alluding to the color of the flowers of most species. Until 2000 this genus was considered a section of Caladenia .
