Gentianella amarella or Gentiana amarella is a species of herbaceous plant of the Gentiana genus that belongs to the gentian�ceas family . It is native to North America and Eurasia , distributing from Alaska to It is a biennial herbaceous plant that reaches a height of 10 to 60 cm. It has fleshy, cylindrical, brown or yellow roots. The stems are erect, not branched, glabrous on the upper part and grooved, hollow, with 4-5 internodes. The radical leaves are spatulate, obtuse, the upper ones, narrower and more pointed. The flowers are purple or pale blue, individual or gathered in axillary bunches. Corolla with five teeth, without intermediate denticles; the mouth with a fringe ring. The fruit is an oblong-lanceolate capsule with small, numerous and very flattened seeds , brown in color
