Description

Eulychnia castaneaIt has shrub growth, reaching a size of up to 1 meter in height, forming dense cushions several meters in diameter. The stems are cylindrical green, 1 to 2 m long (rarely more) and have a diameter of 6-8 centimeters. It has 8 to 12 ribs present where areolas with dark gray felt and emerging from them yellow to brown thorns. The 1-2 strong central spines measure 3 to 10 cm, and the 6 to 10 radial spines are 0.5 to 2 cm long. The white flowers appear on the side near the tips of the shoots and are 5 to 5.5 centimeters long. Its pericarp and corolla tube are covered with hard, brown bristles. The fruits are spherical, yellow to green and covered with thorns that easily fall into full maturity.
