Description

Calamus trachycoleus is an evergreen, climbing palm producing an open cluster of unbranched stems that can be 60 metres or more long and 4.5 - 13.5mm in diameter. The plant produces stolons 2 - 3 metres long and 3 - 4cm in diameter, thus producing its open habit. The stems are of good quality and productive. The plant is commonly harvested from the wild for local use and also for trade. It is widely planted by villagers along river banks within its native range.
