Description

The often very strong plants can grow up to 20 centimeters high and form loose to moderately dense, yellowish-green, reddish-brown lawns. The leaves are lanceolate and blunt to pointed. They have a broad red-brown vaginal portion at the base. The leaf edges are roughly sawn in the upper half. The leaf rib is toothed on the back against the blade tip to blunt. The middle laminar cells in the spreading area are usually square and 8 to 12 (rarely 15) micrometers large, the cells of the vaginal part are linear and smooth. The species is diocese . The seta is up to 6 centimeters long, the oblong egg-shaped capsule almost horizontally and weakly high, the capsule cap vaulted and small pointed. Spores are fine-papillose and 16-18 micrometers in size. Spore maturity is in summer.
