New Mexico Alumroot (Heuchera novomexicana)

Description

Heuchera novomexicana has spreading dark green leaves on long petioles. The leaves are lobed and crenate or irregularly coarsely dentate. The fringes of the leaf are mucronate tipped. The central portion of the leaf is tinged with purple. The long flowering scape bears bright white flowers. The flowers do not appear to ever fully open. The two carpellate indehiscent capsule is mostly concealed by the floral tube. Heuchera novomexicana is found near middle elevation seeps in rocks. It can nearly cover a moist cliffside.
