Description
Ixora coccinea , is a species of shrub belonging to the family Rubiaceae. It is a shrub that reaches a size of 0.8-2 m in height, with glabrous branches. The leaves are opposite, sometimes apparently in whorls in the internodes of the stem due to the reduction of 4, sessile or petiolate, with petiole up to 5 mm, glabrous, coriaceous, oblanceolate, oblong-oblanceolate, obovate, elliptic-oblong or lanceolate , 6-18 x 3 -6 cm, glabrous on both surfaces, the base cuneate to little truncated or rounded, the apex obtuse or rounded to acute. The inflorescence is terminal, in the form of a corymb with many flowers, subsessile to pedunculate, peduncle of 1.5 cm, often supported by two reduced leaves or leaf-shaped bracts. The corollaRed or reddish yellow. The fruit in the form of drupe of reddish black color, subglobose. Fl. May-July and December, fr. September October. It is found in the thickets , scattered in the forests , at an altitude of 200-800 meters in Fujian , Guangdong, Guangxi in China and in Indonesia , Malaysia , the Philippines and Vietnam , are also widely cultivated in tropical regions.
