The white flowers , yellow or cream, are the largest in the genus Rosa , with a diameter of 10 to 14 cm. The fruits , yellow or orange when ripe, are 2.5 to 3.5 cm in diameter when ripe. They are hard and often resist all winter, and are often present on the plant the following spring at the same time as the flowers of the new season. The cultivar 'Erubescens' with smaller pink flowers is the type of the species.
