Description

Broadleaf deciduous shrub, 8-12 ft (~2.5-3.5 m) high, with a greater spread, e.g., 12-15 ft (~3.5-4.5 m), upright then developing a graceful mounding habit with long arching, pendulous slender branches to 3-5 m long. Leaves alternate, simple, broad-ovate to ovate, 2-8 cm long, tip acute to obtuse, base wedge-shaped to rounded, margin entire, bluish green above, pubescent below at first but soon glabrous (without hairs), yellow fall color; short petiole, 6-12 mm long. Flowers white, each about 1 cm wide, with 15-20 yellow stamen, 3-12 flowers per cluster (corymb), unpleasant scent, showy. Fruit fleshy, red, globose, to about 1 cm, contain 1-2 seeds.
