Jones' Columbine (Aquilegia jonesii)

Description

Height 2-10cm. Leaves in a dense tuft, biternate with crowded three to four-lobed leaflets 0.5-lcm wide. Flowers solitary, blue, 2.5-3.5cm wide and 2-3cm long, spurs 1.5cm Rocky Mountains, especially Wyoming, on exposed limestone screes at high altitudes. The smallest of the alpine aquilegias, not difficult to raise from seed but very short lived and rarely flowers satisfactorily. Worth trying on a sunny raised bed.
