The long-stemmed man's shield ( Androsace elongata ), also known as the steppe-man's shield , is a plant in the primrose family (Primulaceae). It is rare to very rare in Central Europe . The long-stemmed man's sign grows as an annual herbaceous plant , has no sterile shoots and reaches a stature height of 2 to 5 cm. All plant parts are covered with star hair, the leaves and the dome parts are often balding or bald. The arranged in basal rosette leaves are lanceolate and pointed, dentate or entire. The inflorescence stems spring to several from the axils of the upper leaves. The doldige inflorescence is spread and mehrblütig. The flower stems are very thin and considerably longer than the bracts at flowering time. The calyx is bell-shaped, 4 to 5 mm long and divided almost to the middle. The crown is white, has a yellow throat, is about 3 mm long and shorter than the calyx. It blooms in April and May, in Brachäckern also in August. The capsule is spherical, 3 mm long and shorter than the calyx. The seeds are numerous, of roundish-angular shape and about 0.5 × 0.75 mm in size. The chromosome number is 2n = 40.
