Description

Erect,dichotomously branched small shrub.Leaves oblong to linear-lanceolate,4.5-15 by 1.5-3.5 cm,cuspidate,base attenuate,thinly strigose,up to 2 cm petioled.Flowers c.15 mm long,white to pink and later violet,with yolk-yellow appendages on the keel,on 4-11 mm long pedicels.Sepals rounded,ciliate,the alae obovate-oblong.Ovary ± quadrangular with rounded edges;Capsule broadly obcordate,c.9-10 by 11 -14 mm,winged (wings not transversely veined),without protruding nerves,coriaceous,very densely covered by white,orbicular,flat papillae.Seed elliptic,at micropylar side with a small appendage,reddish brown,glabrous,up to about halfway covered by the smooth aril,the slightly protruding chalaza and the raphe distinctly visible.
