Alabama Phlox (Phlox pulchra)
Description
The Mountain or Smooth Phlox is native to the Appalachian Mountains. Plants form a bushy upright clump of fresh green leaves, topped in early summer by clusters of fragrant lilac-blue flowers. This is one of the best Phlox selections for hot, humid summer climate areas. Combines beautifully with silver leaved perennials, such as Artemisia -Valerie Finnis'. Useful for massing in the border, and also worth trying in mixed containers or tubs. Prefers a sunny location or light shade. Clip plants back hard after blooming, to rejuvenate the leaves. Easily divided in early fall.
