Missoula Phlox (Phlox missoulensis)
Description
Allied and similar to-P.-douglasii-but more compact, low cushion-forming and with linear to narrowly lanceolate 1.5-2.5cm long leaves. Flowers always solitary and a little larger, in shades of glowing lavender and pink, fragrant, spring. Northern Rocky Mountains on gravelly slopes amongst low scrub and grasses. A potentially desirable rock garden species, initially responding well to careful cultivation.
