Description

Andrachne is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the Phyllanthaceae family and the only genus of the Andrachinae subtribe . It consists of 22 species. They are sufrutices or perennifolias , monoecious , unarmed, latex- free herbs . Leaves simple, alternate, stipulated. Flowers unisexual - or functionally unisexual -, axillary, pentámeras, bracteadas, solitary or reunited in glucérulos paucifloros, with nectariferous disk, the masculine ones with aborted pistil (pistilodio). Sepals 5, soldiers at the base. Petals 5, null in the female flowers. Stamens5, free or frequently welded at the base of the filaments; anthers extruded, dehiscent by longitudinal slits. Trilocular ovary, with 2 seminal rudiments, hemianotropes per locule; styles 3 bifid, free or little soldiers. Fruit in schizoclar capsule, with septicidal and septifrage dehiscence, with mericarps disperms. Trigon seeds, without caruncle.
