Description
Cistanche deserticola is a holoparasitic member of the Orobanchaceae family of plants, commonly known as desert-broomrape. The plant lacks chlorophyll and obtains its nutrients and water in a parasitic fashion from the black saxaul (Haloxylon ammodendron) and white saxaul (Haloxylon persicum).
