Charming paphiopedilum (Paphiopedilum venustum)
Description
Paphiopedilum venustum is known from eastern Nepal to northeast Bangladesh to south Tibet (Goaverts et al. 2014). The species has been recorded from Nepal (Panchther), India (Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim), Bangladesh (Sylhet), Bhutan and China (Tibet - Medog, Dinjie) (Pradhan 1975, Pradhan 1976a, Pradhan 1976b, Cribb 1998, Chowdhery 2004, Lucksom 2007, Misra 2007, Liu et al. 2009, Chen et al. 2009, Raskoti and Ale 2011). This species was originally described from Sylhet in Bangladesh and later reported from India, Nepal, Bhutan and China (Tibet). Records from Bhutan could be authentic as they fall within the total extent of occurrence, but even if the species was found there earlier, there have been no recent records. There have been no recent records from Bangladesh either. The recent records are only from India, Nepal and China.
