Angraecum cornigerum (Angraecum cornigerum)

Description

The word Orchid comes from the Latin orchis with the influence of the Greek orkhidion - which means testicle, with reference to the shape of the underground tubers of certain terrestrial orchids of the temperate regions: only the two tubers resemble a little this part of the body. It is to Theophrastus that this name is attributed. Scientific data obtained from the pollen of an extinct orchid found in amber indicate that this family would be 75 to 86 million years old. Orchids belong to the monocotyledons and the family is the most closely related to the lilies.
