Epilobium obscurum (Epilobium obscurum)

Description

Common in rough waste ground such as felled forestry plantations, and as a weed of damp gardens. Also in hill cuntry beside burns or on wet rock ledges. Plant c 25-80 cm tall. Flower diameter c 7-9 mm. Fruit capsules 4-6 cm. Tall herb with branches ascending almost vertically. All hairs on stems, apart from the gland-tipped ones, more or less appressed, not spreading. Glandular hairs on calyx and often just below it, but not further down the stem. Stem has raised lines running down from the leaf edges. Stigma not 4-lobed but round and compact. Leaves unstalked. In late summer creeping stems grow from the base, with small leaves along their length and no leaf-rosette at the end.
