Description
Eucalyptus calcareana,commonly known as the Nundroo mallee or Nundroo gum,is a mallee that is native to the south coast of Australia.The tree or occasionally mallee typically grows to a height of 3 to 10 metres (10 to 33 ft) and has smooth bark.It blooms on March or April and produces white flowers.It can grow either as a tall tree or a dense shrub with a dense spreading crown.It has distinctive smooth bark with cream,grey and orange-tan coloured ribbons that peel from the branches.The adult leaves are dull blue-green when young and mature to a glossy green colour.The blade is around 140 millimetres (5.5 in) in length and 25 mm (0.98 in) wide with a slightly curved lanceolate shape.Inflorescences are axillary in groups of seven to nine flowers on erect peduncles.Buds form that are 12 mm (0.47 in) in length with a width of 7 mm (0.28 in).They are slightly ribbed with cone-shaped cap.The woody fruits form later and are cup-shaped to cone-shaped around 7 mm (0.28 in) long and nearly as wide.They contain glossy red-brown seeds.
