Kohleria hirsuta (Kohleria hirsuta)

Description

Kohleria hirsuta is a two-hearted plant species first described by Carl Sigismund Kunth , and became known as Eduard August von Regel . Kohleria hirsuta is included in the genus Kohleria and the Gesneriaceae family. Kohleria is a genus of the flowering plant family called Gesneriaceae. The plants are generally tropical herbs or subshrubs with velvety stems and foliage and brightly colored flowers with spots or markings in contrasting colors. Because of their colorful and exotically patterned flowers, kohlerias were very popular in England and Europe in the 19th century. The most popular species and hybrids almost entirely disappeared in the early 20th century, and plant breeders have only recently begun to work extensively with this genus again.
