Description

They are annual herbs, rarely sufruticosas . Stems usually simple, erect, 4-angled and often slightly winged. Pedicelled flowers with a perianth and androceo 5-match; campanulate calyx tube, wolves keeled, persistent; infundibuliform corolla, slightly zygomorphic, white to yellow or yellow-green or rarely pink or bluish, the gibbous tube, the erect wolves to patents; stamens included or slightly exerted with the adnate filaments up to 1/2 proximal of the corolla tube, the basally sagittate and generally inverted anthers, the pollen in tetrads; 1-locular ovary with placenta deeply projected inward, thin, persistent style, 2-lobate stigma. Ovoid capsules, septicly 2-valvated; small, angular, reticulated seeds.
