It is wide spread throughout peninsular India but wild origin obscure. Escaped or naturalized and widely cultivated in neighbouring regions, such as Burma, China, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Thailand, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and world wide in many tropical zones
