Australian Flatsedge (Cyperus trinervis)
Description
Small, tufted perennial. Culms trigonous, smooth, with fibrous remains of leaf sheaths, 15-50 cm high, 0.5-1.5 mm diam. Leaves scarcely septate-nodulose, the longest about as long as culms, to 3 mm wide. Inflorescence simple with 3-8 branches to 8 cm long; digitate clusters 10-20 mm diam.; involucral bracts leaf-like, 1 or 2 often much longer than inflorescence. Spikelets flattened, 3-8 per cluster, 4-14 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, 10-20-flowered; rachilla not winged, persistent. Glumes with sides 1-nerved, c. 1.5 mm long, whitish to pale brown with prominent green midrib. Stamens 3. Style 3-fid. Nut trigonous, ellipsoid, about two-thirds as long as glume, c. 1 mm long, c. 0.6 mm diam., dark brown.
