Velvetleaf (Kalanchoe beharensis)

Description

Kalanchoe beharensis is a slow growing succulent tree-like shrub up to 12 feet (3.6 m) tall. It has thick stems that are covered sharp angled leaf scars that likely evolved to protect the stems that hold large, undulatied and folded, olive-green, slightly-triangular leaves covered in sort brown stellate (branched) hairs that gives the leaves a soft, velvety texture. Each leaf is up to 4 inches (10 cm) long and wide. Once mature, it produces small, greenish yellow flowers in winter.
