Tepenexcomitl (Stenocactus obvallatus)
Description
Stenocactus obvallatus , with the common name of Tepenexcomitl , is a species of plant fanerógama pertaining to the family Cactaceae It is a perennial plant with a fleshy and spherical stem that reaches a diameter of 6-11 centimeters. Its 30-50 ribs are thin and wavy with very wide areolas. In each rib it has 2 to 4 areolas. The 4 central spines have the flattened top and wide, are reddish brown and up to 5 cm long and 3 to 4 millimeters wide. The 4-6 radial spines are white up to 1 cm long. The flowers that appear at the apex are pale yellow to white, very large with a reddish center. The petals are pointed oblong. The appearance of the fruit is not known.
