Description

Selenicereus validus is a climbing, epiphytic cactus of the genus SelenicereusThe 10 to 70 cm long shoots form 9 to 12 ribs and have a diameter of 2 to 3 cm. The ribs are sharp to slightly wavy and 0.5 to 0.7 cm high. 17 to 23 white thorns are formed per areole which can be up to 1.4 cm long. As with all species of the genus, the flower appears at night. It is white and reaches a length of up to 22 cm. The pericarp cell and tube are studded with greenish red scales and white, up to 0.7 cm long, hairs. Selenicereus validus is self-fertile The purple fruits are spherical with a diameter of 4 to 5 cm and studded with white hair.
