Description

Pachycereus militaris is a species in the genus Pachycereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). A trivial name is "Grenadier's Cap". The specific epithet militaris means martial, heavily armored, spiked '.Pachycereus militaris grows tree-shaped with greyish green, initially single columnar shoots , which branch later. It reaches stature heights of 12 to 15 meters and crown diameter of up to 5 meters. The areoles , sitting on the 11 to 14 ribs , are close together and are covered with short wool and white wooly hair. From the areoles spring 3 to 4 prominent, yellowish to brownish middle spines of which one is often over 10 centimeters long. The 10 to 12 marginal spines are pliable, bristly and 1.5 to 4 inches long. At the shoot tips, a cap-shaped pseudocephalium is created from yellowish brown wool, which is up to 30 centimeters long and has a diameter of up to 20 centimeters.
