Chiotilla (Escontria chiotilla)
Description
Escontria chiotilla is a species of cactus belonging to the monotypic genus Escontria , native to Mexico . Arborescent plant, up to 7 m high when mature. Small flowers, 1 to 4.5 cm long and about 2 cm wide, campanulate, receptacular tube 1 to 1.7 cm long and about 0.3 cm thick, bracts up to 1.2 cm long, oblong, acuminate apex, chartaceous, light brown or light yellow. Yellow tepals, about 1.5 cm long. Fruit 2.6 to 5 cm long and 2.5 to 3.7 cm wide, purple red color, with deltoid bracts, yellow and translucent, seeds 1-1.5 mm long.
