Description

Echinopsis coquimbana grows shrubby , branched from the base, is sometimes recumbent, but generally erect, forming dense thickets . The cylindrical shoots have a diameter of 8 centimeters and grow up to 1 meter high. There are twelve to 13 ribs available. The large, circular areoles on them are yellowish to brownish. Straight, strong and brownish thorns spring from them, which turn gray in old age. The three to four middle spines are more gray and up to 5 inches long. The eight to twelve Randdornen have a length of 1 to 2 centimeters. The bell-shaped, white flowers usually appear near the shoot tips or laterally. They are open during the day and at night and up to 12 inches long. The spherical, green fruits are edible.
