Pineapple Cactus (Coryphantha sulcata)

Description

Coryphantha sulcata often forms groups. The spherical to egg-shaped green shoots reach heights of 4 to 13 centimeters and the same diameter. The up to 12 millimeters long, conical warts are loosely arranged. Nectar glands are often present in the warts furrow. The one to three medial mandibles , occasionally missing, are needle-like and 0.9 to 1.2 centimeters long. They are initially yellow or pink and gray later. At least one of them is erect, the rest are bent back. The eight to 14 whitish, 0.8 to 1.8 centimeters long thorns are needle-like and emitting. The yellow flowers have a red throat, they are up to 6 cm long and reach the same diameter. The ellipsoidal, green fruits have lengths of up to 3 centimeters.
