Lady of the night cactus (Cereus hexagonus)

Description

Cereus hexagonus grows tree-shaped with branched, upright shoots from near the base and reaches stature heights of up to 15 meters. The cylindrical, segmented, glaukhellgreen shoots have diameters of up to 12 inches and more. There are four to seven thin, wavy ribs that are 3 to 5 inches high. The areoles on it are small. Young shoots lack the thorns or there are only a few. Older shoots have 8 to 10 or more unequal spines per areole. The initially brown thorns become brighter later. They are 5 to 6 inches long.The white flowers are 20 to 25 inches long. The 5.5 to 13 cm long, egg-shaped fruits are bright red. They contain a white or pink pulp .
