Description

Dasylirion quadrangulatum is a species of the genus Dasylirion in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet quadrangulatum means (lat. Quadrangulatus) with four edges'. An English trivial name is "Sotol Perilla, Junquillo, Vara". Dasylirion quadrangulatum forms a woody, strong trunk up to 300 cm in height. The square, variable, smooth, green, dense leaves are 80 to 90 cm long and 8 to 9 mm wide at the base. The end tips are thin / needle-shaped. The paniculate, woody, in diameter 5 to 7 cm thick, massive inflorescence is 3 to 7 m high. The numerous flowers are white to cream. The flowering period is from March to April. The elliptical to egg-shaped capsule fruits contain 1 to 2 seeds and are 7 mm long and 5 to 6 mm wide. The triangular to elongated seeds are 2.5 mm long and 2 mm wide.
