Arikury palm (Syagrus schizophylla)

Description

The aricuriroba Syagrus schizophylla (Mart.) Glassman, is a native palm tree from Northeast Brazil occurring from Paraíba to BahiaThis species occurs in the coastal strip, in open sandbanks along beaches and also in forested areas, always in sandy soils. The tree is up to 2-4 m high and trunk with 10-15 cm in diameter with leaves about 20 cm long. The mesocarp of its fruits is much appreciated for human consumption. This species is used for landscaping purposes in coastal areas.
