Englerarum hypnosum (Englerarum hypnosum)

Description

100 (150)cm, a new and only recently in 2005 described species from Yunnan province (China) and possibly Northern Thailand and Laos. It was originally described as Alocasia hypnosum, but for some major differences, it was moved into a genus of it's own under the new name Englerarum hypnosum in the year 2013. It is close to Alocasia odora, yet it is strictly seasonally dormant and does not make any pseudostem. A most ornamental, easily grown species with large oval, fresh green leaves and quite large, yellowish-white inflorescences with a pale to dark rosy shade. These are followed by ornamental, bright orange berries. For any rich, humus rich soil in a sunny spot. Keep dormant tubers almost completely dry in winter at a minimum of some 12°C. VII-IX.
