Description
Gonolobus is a genus of plant in family Asclepiadaceae, first described in 1803. It is native to South America, Central America, Mexico, the West Indies, and the southern United States. They are vines or, rarely, prostrate herbs, with white latex. The leaves are long petiolated; herbaceous or with papery touch 2-16 cm long, ovate or elliptical, basally cordate or, in rare cases, rounded, the apex acute to acuminate or, rarely, obtuse, densely pubescent or hirsute, whitish, yellowish or brown trichomes. The inflorescences are extra-axillary with 1-10 flowers, simple, pedunculated, peduncles short and pedicels sometimes almost obsolete, usually glabrous. It has a chromosome number of: 2n = 22 ( G. barbatus Kunth )
