Siler montanum garganicum (Siler montanum garganicum)

Description

Siler montanum subsp. garganicum (formerly Laserpitium siler subsp. garganicum ) is a rather rare species, growing exclusively in Puglia and Sardinia . Moreover, the variety present in Sardinia differs from that of Puglia to have, as a most discriminating feature, the margin of the entire leaf segments. In Sardinia it grows, as well as in the classical places of the mountains of Oliena (NU) and Orgosolo (NU), also in the limestone reliefs Ogliastra , where it has been reported more recently. The images presented in theslideshows refer to the latter geographical area and, precisely, to a site of the Montarbu of Seui (NU), 1200 meters above sea level and another of the contiguous mounts of Ussassai (NU), 800 meters above sea level. vertical limestone facing the north or, in any case, fresh and shady. Furthermore, it prefers a protected position at a few meters of ground. The young plants found at the base of the walls do not seem destined to survive, probably due to the grazing of wild animals.
