Description

Eryngium viviparum is a phanerogamous species of Eryngium belonging to the Apiaceae family . It is a perennial herb , which reaches a size of 2-10 cm in height, unarmed or almost. Strain short, provided with numerous fasciculate roots, fine, dark. Stems c. 0.1 cm in diameter at the base, ± decumbent, very little branched at the top, straw colored. Basal leaves 1,5-10 × 0,2-1 cm, persistent in the anthesis, which usually form rosette, linear-lanceolate, gradually attenuated in long petiole without teeth, regularly denticulated or provided with tender spines, with a main nerve and 2 or more secondary ones, which run parallel to each other from the base and whose ramifications form a thin reticule; cauline leaves 0.7-1.7 cm, all opposite, palmatipartidas, with 3-5 segments - the smallest laterals, sometimes very reduced, all ± linear-, amplexicaules, spiny, sometimes with exilar propagules in autumn. Hemispheric chapters,Bracts 5-6 (12), 5-10 mm, 2-3 times the length of the chapter, lanceolateubuladas, with a pair of lateral spinules, not very stiff, not sharp, welded in c. 1/4 of its length, green. Bract them 2-4, subulate, with 0-1 spinal in the margin, very similar to the bracts. Flowers partially embraced by scarious auricles of bracts or bracts. Sepals c. 1-2 mm, ovate, rigid, with apical spine, bluish. Mericarps 1.5 mm, mostly naked, with tiny scales on top. It has a number of chromosomes 2n = 16 *, 18.
