Bupleuro star (Bupleurum stellatum)

Description

The bupleuro star (scientific name Bupleurum stellatum L. ) is a herbaceous plant perennial from inconspicuous yellowish flowers belonging to the family of Apiaceae . The name of the genus ("Bupleurum") derives from two Greek words: bous and pleuron ; which mean respectively: "ox" and "costa", probably with reference to the longitudinal stripes of the leaves of some species of the genus. This name was used for the first time by Hippocrates and then resumed, in relatively modern times, by Tournefort and Linnaeus . But it is by the French botanist Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu (1748-1836) that this genus was placed in the Umbelliferae family . The biological form of the plant is the scaposa hemicryptophyte ( H scap ): it is therefore a perennial plant with buds located on the ground and with a more or less leafless flower axis.
