Salao Rim (Salsola oppositifolia)

Description

Salsola oppositifolia or salao rim is a plant of the subfamily Chenopodioideae of the family Amaranthaceae . It is typical of coastal areas. Tolerant to salinity, rooted in nitrohalophilous communities and in margins and abandoned crops. Its alkaloid content makes it toxic for goats. It is a shrub up to 2 m high, dark green, with stems and fleshy leaves . The leaves , opposite, are linear and subciliary, flattened by the beam. The flowers , very small, little conspicuous, greenish, have five tepals of reduced size, and five stamens . These tepals grow palpably after fertilization and the appearance of the fruit , appearing a transverse wing very apparent, pink or reddish.
